Unity, faith, and discipline are the national mottos of Pakistan. It is a guiding principle to us Pakistanis. At the time of Partition, it was intelligently adopted by the people as their guiding line. It was given by Muhammad Ali Jinnah. It must be said that it was originated from him. Four months after the emergence of Pakistan on the world’s map December 28, 1947, Jinnah said:
“We are going through fire: the sunshine has yet to come. But I have no doubt that with Unity, Faith, and Discipline we will compare with any nation of the world. Are you prepared to undergo the fire? You must make up your minds now. We must sink individualism and petty jealousies and make up our minds to serve the people with honesty and faithfulness. We are passing through a period of fear, danger, and menace. We must have faith, unity, and discipline.” Change your fear, unemployment, and disorganized circumstances to faith, unity, and discipline.
Unity is basically the mutual feeling of bonding and attachment. It is a belief in oneness. Unity inspires patriotic feelings. It makes us better human beings. Only a strong person is united with the whole nation. It gives us feelings of joy and happiness to be in unity with our people. We become one whole nation (AikQaum). Starting from the grass root level, unity is essential in every field of life. Since childhood, we are taught to be a united nation (AikQaum). In teamwork, unity is required. Pakistan is our work and we need to unite as a team to make it work. Unity not only makes us reliable but also helps in increasing our resistance by a great deal. Unity does not mean your religion or culture needs to be similar. One can still unite with another even after differences. A nation is characterized by unity and solidarity.
Faith can be defined as confidence in a person or a thing or a place. Faith is different for everyone. Religious faith and non-religious faith are two different things. Faith is a belief that every person holds. Faith is also a belief that a person has which redirects their lives. Having faith means you also have hope. Faith teaches us to be persistent and consistent. When there is no faith, nothing is possible. It comes from within and determines one’s attitude towards life. A person who has any skill, intelligence, or capabilities can not win unless that person has faith in his abilities. Faith is when an individual feels enlightened and doesn’t lose hope in a moment of hopelessness. A winner is someone who doesn’t lose hope when it is time to lose it. It gives strength to face the challenges head-on.
Discipline means doing work orderly according to the rules and regulations. Being punctual and regular is also discipline. The word ‘discipline’ has so much value in our lives. Without discipline, this world won’t be able to move forward. Discipline is the only mantra to be successful. Starting from early life, we were always taught to be on time in school. Completing our daily tasks was a work of discipline. An un-disciplined action can destroy our whole life. It is not just obedience but also a controlled attitude on various parameters. Discipline needs to be acquired by the whole nation in order to move forward. Discipline doesn’t mean that you let your peers and superiors get away with unethical demands rather it is a positive way of life.
Hence Unity, faith, and discipline are essential to take a nation forward. Our nation needs these basic elements in order to grow and move forward. It is necessary that we unite with faith while having discipline.
