Teacher is the pivot in the education sector. They are the role models, reformers, and motivators in the life of a student. A teacher is the one who produces masses of professionals for all fields. Every person’s life is marked with the mark of his/her teacher. They are people with dignity and sincerity.
Teaching is the most difficult profession among all professions. And it is known to be an inborn skill that means that not everybody can teach. Unfortunately, the education system of Pakistan rejects this thing and there are no such criteria for hiring teachers. Here teaching is the last profession when there is no other profession you can have. I am apologetic about my words but it is the bitter truth that many joined this profession without having any other option. And on the stage to produce people of different fields.
I bet you to visit some school and ask the students about their goal professions. Most of the students will vote to be a doctor and engineering and some others will list pilots, astronauts, and artists and a few of them may want to be professors. Though at that age they are mostly exposed to the profession of teaching yet they will not mention it for them.
Have you ever thought about it? I have tried to think about it many times but was unable to get an exact answer to it. Anyhow, I would like to share some of my assumptions. The foremost of my assumption is the lack of trained and well-qualified teachers. It is not the fault of the teacher but the system which is responsible to hire them and train them.
Secondly, the fascination for all the other professions is because of the society that demands a child to idealize the profession of doctor and engineering rather than a teacher. I have encountered very few people who are enthusiastic and willing to be a teacher. And I have also seen people who discourage those who want to be a teacher.
Thirdly the treatment of people according to profession holds back the students to idealize the profession of teaching. We respect professions like doctors, civil servants, army high officials, engineers, etc. more than a teacher. Although all these professionals were once the students of some teachers.
Fourthly many lack the skill of teaching and that side them to idealize this great profession. However, skills can be improved but there is no proper training center for that.
Teaching should be the idealized profession like all others so that the one who adopts it can teach with true spirit and notion. For that, there is a need for the professional training for the teacher who can inspire their students. The element of respect should be above profession. Because respect is somehow human quality and not associated with any profession. #Give respect and get respect#.
