CHITRAL: A three-member Georgian mountaineering team ascended the northwestern face of the Hindukush mountain range’s Sraghar Peak (7,303 metres) in the north of Chitral last week.
Archi Badriashili, the team’s leader, told Dawn the other day that the trek from base camp to the summit took them eight days. Because the mountain was like an ice wall, he claimed it was the most challenging excursion of their lives.
Fairweather, on the other hand, he added, aided their ascent to the summit.
Three efforts to mount the summit by teams from other countries, he said, had failed three decades ago.
“We started descending after an hour at the peak, taking nearly 24 hours to reach base camp,” he added.
Archi Badriashili claimed it was their third trip to Pakistan, and that his team, which included Baqar Galashvili and George Tepandze, had ascended peaks above 7,000 meters in the Pamirs, Himalayas, Kyrgyzstan, and Nepal, as well as the Swiss Alps.
According to the Georgian climber, the Hindukush mountains in Chitral have around 200 peaks of 5,000 meters or higher.
He stated it was one of his professional goals to climb Terich Mir, Hindukush’s highest peak, but it was too early to predict when he would do it.
According to him, Pakistan is a pleasant destination for visitors and mountaineers. He stated that ecotourism has a lot of promise in the area.
The crew had already ascended Languta-i-Barfi (6,827 metres), a neighbouring mountain, to acclimate themselves to the surroundings.
