The land of Pakistan is full of devoted people who never late a second when there is a chance of sacrifices whether it is life or material. Marium Mukhtiar listed herself as the first woman fighter pilot who embraced martyrdom on the 24th of November 2015.
The brave lady was born in Karachi on the 18th of May 1992. She was the daughter of Col. (R) Mukhtiar Ahmed Shaikh and was brought up in a sacred environment where passion for martyrdom always prevailed. She graduated in Civil Engineering from NED Karachi and after that wished to join Air Force as GD Pilot. Her parents especially her father was a bit worried about his passion but she managed to convince them. She joined PAF as an Aviation Cadet in the 132 GD (P) course in 201. She was sent to PAF Academy Risalpur in the company of seven other female Pakistani cadets.
The most fortunate and jubilant day of her life was when she was commissioned in PAF Academy Risalpur on the 24th of September 2014. After that, she was posted to PAF Base MM ALAM to get trained as a fighter pilot. Then on the 24th of November 2015, Flying Officer Marium Mukhtiar took her flight in a PAF F-7PG aircraft with her instructor-pilot Squadron Leader Saqib Abbasi on an operational training mission. During their flight, the aircraft got some serious technical fault. Both the pilots tried their best to settle without any destruction but the situation was “to be or not to be”. Her co-pilot Squadron Saqib Abbasi rescued himself. She embraced martyrdom and became the first-ever female pilot of the Pakistan Air Force, who embraced martyrdom.
Once she said to her father that: “When a pilot embraces martyrdom, you only find the ashes, not the pilot.” This shows her selflessness and fearlessness. She was awarded Tamgha-e-Basalat. She made history and set herself as a model for all the females.
