The education system of Pakistan offers various fields from Medical Sciences to Engineering, Technical to Computer Science & Information Technology, Art & Design to Management Sciences, Social Sciences to Biological & Life Sciences, Chemical & Material Sciences to Physic &Numerical Sciences, Earth & Environmental Sciences to Agricultural Sciences, Religious Studies to Media Studies. All the fields are extremely good and competing but there is a need for improvement and specification of subject for all the areas of studies.
It is good to learn different subjects but at the same time, every individual cannot do it. Because every person is different from the other and has different interests and skills. Allah Almighty has gifted each with different qualities so one cannot be good at every field. So there should be specified subjects for the specified field of studies. This is a major issue which needs to be addressed as soon as possible because the influx of various subjects is diverting students from their field of studies.
In school, the students are exposed to a different subject and that is good to introduce the student to various subjects so that he/she can identify his/her field of interest. Whereas, after grade 8th a student comes to know that what he/she wants to study hence, the student should be offered different fields and should be given the choice to select the field on his/her own.
Although different fields are there all are not offered after grade 8th which is one of the reasons for lack of skills in us. Secondly, the fields which are offered are composed of different subjects which are not more than a distraction. Like when a student selects science for his/her matriculation then he/she is bound to study Math’s, Islamiyat, Urdu, and some others. So this is a threat to the grip of the students. It means the students are unable to command over the subject of their interest. Moreover, it is not just the case in matriculation but intermediate as well. Then the same mechanism is applied at the university level which is unjust to the students. These are some of the reasons which contribute to the non-professionalism of our society.
The students select the field of their interest at the university level but remain to confuse throughout the time that what they are studying. This is a major issue especially in a semester system where a student read more than 45 subjects and many of the subjects are irrelevant. This lets the student gather smaller knowledge for every subject. And this is also the reason many students are unable to score good marks.
Hence, it needs to be considered and there needs to be immediate action to solve this issue. There are many fields within the specific field so it would be better to focus on the specific area and to study that in detail. It would benefit the students to have a command over their subject and to have the best of their skills.
