The word dam is defined as a barrier that stops the flow of water but it boosts the flow of life with the help of its reservation. It costs a good amount in its construction but pays back for a lifetime. It takes a large area for building it yet saves larger lands. The reserved water can be used for irrigation purposes, for domestic use, for the commercial sector and fire control, and other multi-purposes. Dams do not just stop the flow of water but also stop flooding and erosion of land. Dam construction is the best source of hydroelectricity which is a must need. Moreover, it can be used for recreation like boating, fishing, swimming, and camping. Simply dam construction is wholly and solely beneficial to every sector. But it needs a resourceful project with trained professionals because it has some disadvantages as well if not constructed properly. The approximate life span of a dam is 100 years. So, it means it works for a longer time.
Pakistan being the most vulnerable country to climate change and water reservoirs so it needs to build more and more dams. Pakistan is blessed with an abundance of natural resources and one of them is water. We have a lot of water in form of vast extended seas, oceans, different lakes, rivers, and natural springs. But they are not used for a purpose and are wasted in the long run. For the time being it is unnoticed whereas in near future it can charge us a greater value. Hence, before that, we need to tackle this problem.
Dam construction is really necessary because water is the runner of life on this planet. There is no survival without water not for all human beings but every living entity of the earth. Even non-living things are useless without water. Besides, water storage dam construction would be a good project for job creation which can empower hundreds and thousands of our people. Moreover, our economy depends on agriculture which is why we need more water reservoirs to run our lives and our country. Pakistan faces an electricity crisis that can only be overcome by the construction of dams. Dams are sources for hydropower generation that we can use in the development of our country. Further, we can use the dam for recreational purposes which would again increase our revenue.
So, why not invest in dam construction and to secure our present and future? It is not the time to plan but to execute and make evergreen Pakistan.
