China has always benefited Pakistan through its various projects. No doubt China has its interest in the development of Pakistan yet it is an advantage for our country to progress. Many projects are working under China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The completion of all those projects can give Pakistan a well-developed infrastructure along with powerful energy. Chinese projects reach out to rural areas like Gwadar, some areas in GB, and Chitral.

However, all such places are known as rural mostly because of their road infrastructure. Secondly, the major problem of such areas is power. If there would be power and road infra then they are the worthy places to live.

Turtonas-Uzghor Hydropower

Moreover, Chitral is the farthest district of KPK that needs attention and projects for development. China’s Sinodydro is going to build a run-of-the-river hydropower plant in Chitral, KP to produce 82MWs or 380 GW. I would produce clean energy per annum at the cost of $200 million. Uzghor Hydropower Pvt. Ltd will complete this project. Anyhow there is one power plant situated in the Golen Gol. And the new one is about 5 kilometers away.

Further, the time duration for this project is four years. National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA and Private Power Infrastructure Board (PPIB) have already approved this project. Whereas the National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) has also allowed interconnection of the project with the transmission line of the existing Golen Gol HPP.

This hydropower project can transform the challenges into possibilities. For instance, the production of hydropower can be used for heating purposes. And this can reduce the rate of deforestation. So it would ultimately contribute to the reduction of air pollution. By this, it would make possible to lessen the chances of Global Warming. In this way, a whole cycle is retrieved. Moreover, this project can create abundant jobs for the local people of Chitral.
