Reko Diq: The town of underground Gold and Copper

Pakistan is a resourcefully rich country. It contains the largest mines like that of copper and gold. So, it is urgently necessary to explore and utilize.

What is Reko Diq?

Reko Diq is a part of the Tethyan Magmatic Arc that is outstretched through central and southeast Europe (Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Greece), Turkey, Iran, and Pakistan through the Himalayan region into Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Papua New Guinea. And the whole range is rich in natural resources like copper and gold. In Pakistan, Reko Diq is a sandy little town located in the Chagai district. However, it was an agreement between Baluchistan Government and TCC (Tethyan Copper Company) signed in 1993 with patent CHEJVA. This agreement was to explore the raw resources under Reko Diq. The falsely decided agreement gave BHP a 75% share in discoveries made in the next 56 years over a 3.3 million-acre area. However, the Baluchistan Government got a 25 pc share on joint investment.

What was explored from Reko Diq?

The exploration dug out 14 potential sites that contained 48 pockets for excavation during 1993 and 1997. They called it the Reko Diq complex. BHP got the license of exploration and immediately discovered clear gold and copper just after a shallow dig. This exploration led to robbery attacks from the international mining community. Recently some geological organizations including the US Geological Survey estimated its value from one to three trillion dollars. Whereas TCC hides the actual value before the survey of 2008. They mentioned it “2.2 billion tons, with an average copper grade of 0.53pc and gold grade of 0.3 g/ton.” And this makes not more than 10 million tons of copper and 13 million ounces of gold.

While in 2008 the geologist of TCC conducted another study and reported that the copper-gold deposit at Reko Diq is “world-class and contains 18 million tons of copper and 32 million ounces of gold”. And the estimated value ranks it tenth in the list of largest mine in the world. Whereas some other experts estimated it to be at number 5.

Why Government is so inefficient?

After all, the question that arises here is that why our Government is so inefficient in making discoveries?  It has always remained incapable to utilize natural resources. Almighty has blessed this land with everything except leadership. This land has many more Reko Diq hidden in its crest. The most disgusting about the high authorities is their attitude towards this country.

A question to be answered: Cannot Pakistan use its own resources in it?

Nation observes 10th Anniversary of APS Peshawar tragedy

The 10th anniversary of the tragic terror incident at Army Public School Peshawar is being observed today to pay tribute to the martyrs.

Special prayers and Quran Khwani are being held for the martyred students and teachers of Army Public School.

Meanwhile, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa education department has arranged special functions to commemorate the APS incident and martyred students.

On 16th of December 2014, six terrorists stormed the Army Public School Peshawar and martyred one hundred and forty-seven innocent students and teachers of the school.

Chomos festival continues in Kalash Valley

The historic fifteen-day Chomos festival continues in Kalash Valley, including Chitral district, on seventh consecutive day, today.

Under the guidance of Tashfeen Haider, Director General of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority, tourist information centers in Chitral City and Upper Dir have been activated to assist both foreign and local visitors.

The Kalash people are observing various rituals during the Chomos festival as part of their New Year celebrations.

Traditional songs, dances, and rituals are key features of the festival, which is set to culminate on the 22nd of this month.
