Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan had a real name Pervez Fateh Ali Khan. He was a singer, musician, composer, and music director. He was primarily a singer of Qawwalis, born in Faisalabad, he had his first performance at the age of 15, at his father’s chelum. He became the head of the family Qawwali party in 1971. Qawwali is a Sufi Islamic devotional singing, originating from Indian sub-continent and notably popular in the Punjab and Sindh regions of Pakistan. Qawwali received international recognition through the work of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Sabri brothers largely due to several releases on the Real World label, followed by live performances in WOMAD festivals. Qawwal is someone who repeats a Qaul. Nusrat Fateh Ali khan is indeed a special name. His family originated from Basti Sheikh Darvesh in Jalandhar. Punjab in present-day India. In the summer of 1985, Khan performed at the World of Music, Arts, and dance (WOMAD) festival in London. He performed in Paris in 1985 and1988. At the invitation of the Japan Foundation, he visited Japan in 1987. Khan’s experimental work for the real world, which featured his collaborations with the Canadian guitarist Michael Brook, spurred on several further collaborations with several other western composers and rock musicians.  One of the most noteworthy collaborations came when Khan grouped with Pearl Jam’s lead singer Eddie Vedder on two songs for the soundtrack to Dead man walking.

Shortly before his death, He composed music for three Bollywood films, which include “Aur Pyar hogaya”, “koi jane koi na jane”, and “Zindagi Jhoom kar”. The late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan is one of the key artists in real-world records. He recorded for real-world record 1990’s “Mustt Mustt” and 1996’s night song. The latter was nominated for Grammy and was described by Billboard as “a work of great beauty”. He is one of the most influential. His voice is universally recognized as one of the great voices in musical history. Qawwali is one of the Sufi devotional music popular in South Asia particularly in areas with a historically strong Muslim presence. In 1993, the late American singer- songwriter Jeff Buckley described NFAK as ‘my Elvis’. He is considered the greatest performer of Qawwali, a piece of Sufi devotional music characterized by simple melodies, forceful rhythms, and energetic improvisations that encourage a state of euphoria in the listener. Nusrat’s father Ustad Fateh Ali Khan, and two of his uncles, Ustad Mubarak Ali Khan and Ustaad Salamat Ali Khan, were famous Qawwals.

He sung;

2. Yeh jo halka halka suroor hai

3. Tumhey dillagi bhool jani pareygi

4. Sanson ki mala pa

5. Piya Re Piya Re

6. Mera Piya Ghar Aya

7. Dam Mast Qalandar Mast

And many more amazing songs he sang through which he mesmerized nations. Even now we hear his name from every other person. Death anniversary of singer Masood Rana observed

The 29th death anniversary of famous playback singer Masood Rana was observed on Friday.

He was born in Mirpur Khas, Sindh.

Masood Rana started his singing career from Radio Pakistan Hyderabad in 1955.

He began singing for films in 1962.

Masood Rana remained one of the top male singers in Urdu and Punjabi films for more than three decades.

He died in Lahore on this day in 1995.

Death anniversary of Naseem Begum being observed today

The 53rd death anniversary of renowned Pakistani singer Naseem Begum is being observed today.

Born in 1936 in Amritsar, Naseem Begum sang hundreds of Punjabi and Urdu songs for films. Her melodious voice won her a huge fan following in the country.

During the 1965 war against India, Naseem Begum, was one of those singers who lent their voices to patriotic songs. her song ”Aye Raah-e-Haq k shaheedo” boosted the morale of the armed forces and the nation.

She passed away on this date in 1971.

Death anniversary of Ashfaq Ahmad being observed today

Twentieth death anniversary of eminent writer, playwright and broadcaster Ashfaq Ahmad is being observed today.

Ashfaq Ahmad wrote dozens of TV dramas and hosted famous programmes of Radio Pakistan “Talqeen Shah” which was broadcast by Radio Pakistan for about 35 years.

His famous PTV plays were “Munchaley ka Soda” “Aik Muhobaat Sao Afsaney” “Tota Kahani” “Hairat Kada” and “Afsaney”.

On television, Ahmad penned the script of several plays that went on to become popular with audiences including, Uchhay Burj Lahore De, Tali Thallay, and Tota Kahani. He also made a feature film called Dhop aur Saya in the 60’s.

Ahmed married Banu Qudsia, who was also a well-known author and literary personality.

He received both the Presidential Pride of Performance award and Sitar-e-Imtiaz.

Ashfaq Ahmad died on this day in 2004 in Lahore.
