It is highly necessary to develop research centers to find out the causes of diseases. When the cause is diagnosed then the curability is easily discoverable. It is a milestone that Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences has announced the establishment of Pakistan’s first of its kind cancer research laboratory.
Prof Dr. Bikha Ram is the vice-chancellor of LUMHS said that the laboratory would produce medicines for all types of cancer in the next three years. As this ailment was not responding to available drugs. Flanked by LUMHS Medical Research Centre director Dr. Binafsha Manzoor Syed at the local press club, the VC said that the laboratory was fully funded by the Higher Education Commission which was sponsoring six projects in LUMHS at a cost of Rs1,582m.
It was a landmark achievement that was made possible by the collective efforts of Dr. Ikram Uddin Ujjain, Dr. Binafsha Manzoor, and a team of doctors and scientists of LUMHS, he said.
Dr. Binafsha pointed that 22,000 cases of cancer patients had been examined since 2008 in the medical research center. “This study reveals that the type of breast and colorectal cancer in Sindh is more aggressive than European cancer,” she said.
“The medicines that are being applied on patients currently are not responding in the great majority which is evidence of an aggressive type of the cancers,” she said.
