Books are well known to be the best companion. But I disagree with this statement to some extent. Because books themselves cannot be the companion rather reading can make them so. The actual thing is reading and it depends upon the individual. Although skills are innate I think reading habits can be developed. Reading has many benefits which make it a habit of educated and highly developed countries. It has the power to take you on journeys in many areas. It can help you to escape from your worst situation. With the help of reading, you can taste the world of fiction along with the stances of reality. It can take you to the history of your folks. You can easily know the culture and traditions of those who have passed away hundred years ago. Books offer you to understand and interpret ideas that were presented in the past of your past. By reading events of years ago you can visualize the moment. Its efforts to acknowledge and bind your literature and allows you to reach out to others’ literature.
Science believes that reading can expand your mind. It does not just expand your mind but also your knowledge. It broadens views and intellectual horizons. And it has been proven to sustain the mind young, healthy, and lively. The best thing about reading is that it can eliminate many bad habits in youths. Once a person indulges in a reading habit he/she can hardly escape from it. Reading stuff can act differently for everyone. It can be the alternate of smoking for smokers, a glass of wine for drinkers, a tablet of knowledge for learners. It can be what you want it to be.
However, reading itself is a culture and it needs promotion and preservation. Libraries are the headquarters of reading culture which needs to be installed in every city, town, and village of the country. There should be a mini library at homes as well. Mini libraries can motivate and can enhance the culture of reading.
Now the culture of reading has shifted to E-reading from book reading. The E-reading cost you less and give you more but the charm of book reading in hard form can never be compared. Hard form of reading stuff engulfed you into their words and enthrall you to read more and more.
And it is well said that: “Books are the plane, and the train, and the road, and they are the destination and the journey, they are home.”
So take your plane and train on to the road towards your destination and journey and be back home. Promote reading culture, eradicate bad habits, and educate Pakistan.
