Pakistan will always support ‘Afghan led – Afghan owned’ peace process: COAS

RAWALPINDI, May 10 (APP):Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Monday said Pakistan would always support “Afghan led – Afghan owned” peace process based on mutual consensus of all the stakeholders.

“A peaceful Afghanistan means a peaceful region in general and a peaceful Pakistan in particular,” the COAS said during his day-long official visit to Kabul where he held a meeting with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani.

Chief of the Defence Staff United Kingdom General Sir Nicholas Patrick Carter was also present during the meeting, an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) news release here said.

During the meeting, matters of mutual interest, current developments in the Afghan peace process, enhanced bilateral security and defence cooperation, and the need for effective border management between the two brotherly countries were discussed.

The Afghan president thanked the COAS for a meaningful discussion and appreciated Pakistan’s sincere and positive role in the Afghan peace process.

Later, the COAS also called on Chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation of Afghanistan Dr Abdullah Abdullah and discussed matters related to the Afghan peace process.

Director-General Inter-Services Intelligence Lieutenant General Faiz Hamid also accompanied the COAS during the visit.

Nation observes 10th Anniversary of APS Peshawar tragedy

The 10th anniversary of the tragic terror incident at Army Public School Peshawar is being observed today to pay tribute to the martyrs.

Special prayers and Quran Khwani are being held for the martyred students and teachers of Army Public School.

Meanwhile, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa education department has arranged special functions to commemorate the APS incident and martyred students.

On 16th of December 2014, six terrorists stormed the Army Public School Peshawar and martyred one hundred and forty-seven innocent students and teachers of the school.

Chomos festival continues in Kalash Valley

The historic fifteen-day Chomos festival continues in Kalash Valley, including Chitral district, on seventh consecutive day, today.

Under the guidance of Tashfeen Haider, Director General of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority, tourist information centers in Chitral City and Upper Dir have been activated to assist both foreign and local visitors.

The Kalash people are observing various rituals during the Chomos festival as part of their New Year celebrations.

Traditional songs, dances, and rituals are key features of the festival, which is set to culminate on the 22nd of this month.
