Islamabad: The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) was recently informed by the Pakistan International Airways (PIA) that flight operations from Lahore and Islamabad to Saidu Sharif (Swat) will resume from March 26, a news source reported on March 19.

Initially, PIA will operate two flights per week and the first is scheduled to depart from Islamabad on March 26. The PIA management had requested the CAA for the necessary arrangements for resumption of flights and upon receiving the written letter from PIA, the CAA finalized the requested arrangements at Saidu Sharif airport which had been nonoperational since 2004.

The infrastructure to handle domestic travel has been in place since September 2019 and the CAA has invested huge sums of money for the smoother operations, including runaway and better car parking. Air Traffic Control (ATC) and Airports Security Force (ASF) were also notified to facilitate the biweekly flights and the essential personal will be deployed at the airport before March 25.
