Today is the 50th shahadat Anniversary of Maj Muhammad Akram Shaheed. (04 Apr 1938 – 05 Dec 1971)

He was born in Dinga Village District of Gujrat, Punjab while he belonged to the village of Nakka Kalan in the district of Jhelum. He belonged to Awan tribe Pakistan was a major of the Pakistan Army, commissioned in 1963 as part of the Frontier Force Regiment. In the Battle of Hilli for his leadership, bravery and eventually rendering the ultimate sacrifice, Major Akram was awarded Nishan-e-Haider.

During the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971 the 4th FF Regiment which Akram commanded, was placed in the forward area of the Hilli district in East Pakistan. The regiment came under continuous and heavy Air, Artillery, and Armour attacks from the Indian Army. For an entire fortnight, despite enemy superiority in both numbers and firepower, Akram and his men repulsed every attack inflicting heavy casualties on the enemy. Maj Akram embraced martyrdom during this battle.

He belonged to the village of Nakka Kalan in the district of Jhelum and his monument Maj Muhammad Akram Shaheed Memorial is constructed in the midst of Jhelum city. He was buried in village Boldar in Bengal. He is called Hero of Hilli. Anjum Sultan Shahbaz famous writer and historian has mentioned in the book Tareekh-e-Jhelum and Shohdai Jhelum. Akram was posthumously awarded the Nishan-e-Haider, Pakistan’s highest military award.

Nation observes 10th Anniversary of APS Peshawar tragedy

The 10th anniversary of the tragic terror incident at Army Public School Peshawar is being observed today to pay tribute to the martyrs.

Special prayers and Quran Khwani are being held for the martyred students and teachers of Army Public School.

Meanwhile, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa education department has arranged special functions to commemorate the APS incident and martyred students.

On 16th of December 2014, six terrorists stormed the Army Public School Peshawar and martyred one hundred and forty-seven innocent students and teachers of the school.

Chomos festival continues in Kalash Valley

The historic fifteen-day Chomos festival continues in Kalash Valley, including Chitral district, on seventh consecutive day, today.

Under the guidance of Tashfeen Haider, Director General of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority, tourist information centers in Chitral City and Upper Dir have been activated to assist both foreign and local visitors.

The Kalash people are observing various rituals during the Chomos festival as part of their New Year celebrations.

Traditional songs, dances, and rituals are key features of the festival, which is set to culminate on the 22nd of this month.
