Islamabad-born Nomana Khatoon comes from a business family, which undoubtedly influenced her future path in business as a fashion designer. This background provided a useful understanding of business which ultimately resultantly return in result of greater understanding of color balance and print design and led to start her career in the field of block printing. As Block printing involves carving the desired pattern on to a wooden block, covering that design in ink or dye and stamping it on the fabric. Nomana studied his college from ICG F-6/2 and graduated in fine arts. Just after graduation she got married and with family the idea of starting block printing was a great hurdle yet learned all the techniques, color combination techniques started her own workshop and presented block printed shawls, bags, suits and sarees in biggest exhibition across the country for many years. At the present date she has more than 20 years’ experience in block printing having more than 1500 block providing lawn, ajrak, khaddar, silk and cotton block prints. Her specialty lilan black block printed shawls and velvet shawls which are famous among the foreigners which they like the most because it represents our broad Pakistani culture. All the designing and hard work is done all by her with immense ideas in her mind. “Fashion is in the sky, in the street; fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.” She has a small team of block printers comprising mostly of women which assist her in her daily work orders of customers. The idea she follows today is women empowerment with main aim to provide training in block printing to as many women of any age as one says “art has no age”. The idea of creating job opportunities and spreading this business at greater scale is lacking most at this time as the art of block printing represents our culture and tradition, with learning of techniques and recognition in this we can elevate our society with better business model and workshops in every part of country we can establish greater platform of this printing technique in the fashion industry leading to positivity in job creation and progress of the country.
