There
is a country in the world whose image contrast with what that country really
possess. I am talking about Pakistan. Pakistan is really beautiful country. If
you look deep into it, it has many colors that the world do not know about.
Pakistan faces the confusion of explaining its stance and culture to the world.
Even after all the hardships the country is facing, their culture remains
beautifully vibrant for the world to see. Pakistani culture is very diverse,
you will notice multiple colors in our culture. Pakistan has different
features, custom, food, and cultural dresses. Many different languages are
spoken in Pakistan, Punjabi,Sindhi, Balochi, Pushto and many more that are even
discussed usually while talking about the language of Pakistan. Family bonds
are strong in Pakistan. Pakistani loves music and making music in Pakistan has
a history. Sufism has given birth to the great music and good poetry. We love
sports and music. We have huge weddings, big would sound less. A single wedding
introduce you to a rich and bright culture. This multiethnic culture loves
listening to Qawwalis that comes from
Sufism also the good ol fashioned rock n roll.
In 1940s Alam Lohar was a Punjabi folk
singer, he is known as the grandfather of Pakistani music. Lohar used “chimta” as an
instrument and conquered the hearts of the crowd. In 1950s Sunny Benjamin, John and Irene Perveen, belonging to a Christian
household, stole the shows. During this year, many minorities were coming
forward with their work on TV. In 1960s,
ko-ko-korina song earned Platinum
Jublee. It became popular all over Pakistan. In 1980s, Nazia Hassan became the “Queen of pop” by singing the most amazing
songs in the history of Pakistan. She is known as one of the most influential
singers across South and Southeast Asia. In 1990s, Junoon band came into existence. The band has Salman Ahmed as a lead guitarist, founder and song writer. Ali Azmat is a vocalist.
In the early 2000s, all the young talent had
an opportunity to showcase their talent. Coke studio brought all the talent in
one platform together. It became a new wave of music and talent. Coke studio is
basically Pakistani television program and also an international music
franchise. Since 2008, Coke Studio has become a huge name where people of
Pakistan showcase their colorful and vibrant music and art. Since then many
people have sung songs and made music from the same platform. We also have Nusrat Fateh Ali khan who has made his
name across borders and countries. His music is timeless. He is also called
powerhouse khan of the music industry. When the Qawwali singer died, everybody cried like babies and were sad and
heartbroken due to such a loss. We sure lost a treasure of our music industry.
The Pakistani vocalist sang “ye jo halka
halka suroor hai”, Allah hoo Allah hoo, Tumhey dillagi bhool jani pareygi” and
many more.

Now, what do you think to have a visualization of our northern area? I believe whenever you hear northern area the name of Hunza comes to your mind. So let us know something about the forts of Hunza valley.
Altit Fort
Hey ….! This is the Altit Fort located in Karimabad in the Hunza valley in Gilgit Baltistan. This fort was home to the hereditary rulers of the Hunza state. They were known to be the Mir. You know it is one of our antiques as it is about 900 years old. That means it is the oldest monument in Gilgit–Baltistan. Some decades back it was in great disrepair. But Aga Khan Trust for Culture has graciously restored it. And then it has been open to the public since 2007. You can see the antiques preserved from the Mir kingdom. Oh, how lovely are old things.
Altit Fort
A fort under the clear blue sky, high mountains, and down valley is just an ideal to many but it is present. Nature is shouting from every angle. Now just mend your imaginative steps toward Baltit Fort that is not far from the Altit Fort.
Baltit Fort
So here we have reached our second destination of today’s trip. This fort is also near the Karimabad town Hunza Valley. Let’s know a bit about its history. It was founded in the 8th century CE, it has been on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative list since 2004. In the past, the survival of the feudal regime of Hunza was ensured by the impressive fort, which overlooks Karimabad. The foundations of the fort date back to 700 years ago, with rebuilds and alterations over the centuries. In the 16th century, the local prince married a princess from Baltistan who brought master Balti craftsmen to renovate the building as part of her dowry. All this information is so interesting, aren’t they?
You all know there is a level of our kings or Mirs so far the Mir of Hunza also abandoned the fort in 1945 and moved to a new palace down the hill. The fort started to decay which caused concern that it might possibly fall into ruin. But fortunately, the Royal Geographical Society of London initiated a restoration program and was supported by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture Historic Cities Support Program. The program was completed in 1996 and the fort is now a museum run by the Baltit Heritage Trust. You can see it has preserved the rich heritage of Mirs of Hunza. How finely everything has been restored. You can see its architecture is far different and unique.
