A tribute to Yousaf Khan (Dilip Kumar)

Dilip was an Indian actor and film producer best known for his work in Hindi cinema. He was born in Peshawar, Pakistan. He was usually referred to as “Tragedy King” and “The First Khan. He has been credited with bringing a distinct form of method acting technique to the cinema. His real name was Muhammed Yousaf khan. Kumar was born in a Pashtun family of 12 children. He was also a politician. Kumar was a member of Rajya Sabha, the upper house of India’s Parliament, from 2000 to 2006. He earned names like, “The ultimate Method Actor”, “Dilip sab” and “Legendary King”. His debut films were “Ganga Jamuna”, “Jawar bhata’. His last film was “Qila”. He won many achievement awards in 1954, 1956, 1957, 1958, 1961, 1962, 1965, 1968, 1971, 1979 to 1982, 1983 and 1991, 1994, 1998, 2001, 2004, 2008, 2009, 2015. He made a Guinness World record for winning the maximum number of Best Actor Filmfare awards by any Indian actor. His religion was Islam. His hobbies were playing football, badminton, and cricket. He was in a relationship with Kamini Kaushal (former actor), late Madhubala, Vyjyanthimala, Asma Rehman, Saira Banu. He married Saira Banu in1996 and Asma Rehman in 1980. After the miscarriage of Saira Banu, they decided to never have a child.

Dilip Kumar’s first anti-hero role was in Mehboob khan’s Hindi film ‘Amar’. Kumar portrayed the role of Prince Salim in ‘Mughal-E-Azam. He talked about his marriage to Saira;

When I married Saira she was young, even younger than my sisters. I wondered how she would cope with establishing the right vibes with my brothers and sisters, especially since she belonged to a small family. We siblings were a dozen, but she not only respected and loved them as a devoted sister-in-law, but also keeps me close to all of them

He starred with his wife Saira Banu in Hindi Film “Gopi”. In 1981, he returned to films in “Kranti”. He then appeared in many Hindi films. After his acting career, he started his political career in 2000. Dilip Kumar loved cooking, he used to make chicken soup the best. Kumar was the idol of Indian actor Dharmendra. Dilip Kumar was a music lover and was well-versed in playing Sitar. He also recorded a song with legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar. The Tragedy king was a film institution in himself. In addition to his acting, he was also known for his good looks and deep awards. He indeed was a gem for the industry and the whole world. His acting career to his personal life everything contains one thing and that is hard work done by him.

Death anniversary of singer Masood Rana observed

The 29th death anniversary of famous playback singer Masood Rana was observed on Friday.

He was born in Mirpur Khas, Sindh.

Masood Rana started his singing career from Radio Pakistan Hyderabad in 1955.

He began singing for films in 1962.

Masood Rana remained one of the top male singers in Urdu and Punjabi films for more than three decades.

He died in Lahore on this day in 1995.

Death anniversary of Naseem Begum being observed today

The 53rd death anniversary of renowned Pakistani singer Naseem Begum is being observed today.

Born in 1936 in Amritsar, Naseem Begum sang hundreds of Punjabi and Urdu songs for films. Her melodious voice won her a huge fan following in the country.

During the 1965 war against India, Naseem Begum, was one of those singers who lent their voices to patriotic songs. her song ”Aye Raah-e-Haq k shaheedo” boosted the morale of the armed forces and the nation.

She passed away on this date in 1971.

Death anniversary of Ashfaq Ahmad being observed today

Twentieth death anniversary of eminent writer, playwright and broadcaster Ashfaq Ahmad is being observed today.

Ashfaq Ahmad wrote dozens of TV dramas and hosted famous programmes of Radio Pakistan “Talqeen Shah” which was broadcast by Radio Pakistan for about 35 years.

His famous PTV plays were “Munchaley ka Soda” “Aik Muhobaat Sao Afsaney” “Tota Kahani” “Hairat Kada” and “Afsaney”.

On television, Ahmad penned the script of several plays that went on to become popular with audiences including, Uchhay Burj Lahore De, Tali Thallay, and Tota Kahani. He also made a feature film called Dhop aur Saya in the 60’s.

Ahmed married Banu Qudsia, who was also a well-known author and literary personality.

He received both the Presidential Pride of Performance award and Sitar-e-Imtiaz.

Ashfaq Ahmad died on this day in 2004 in Lahore.
